Hampton Bay Fire Pit
A Hampton Bay fire pit is either a wood-burning bowl with a spark screen or a 50,000 BTU propane fire pit table, sold at Home Depot. Compare the current pits, light a propane table the right way, and find covers, manuals and parts.

Wood or propane fire pit?
Pick one to see what each asks of you, from the Hampton Bay manuals.
Wood burning
Real logs, crackle and smoke. Keep the pit at least 8 ft. from walls and anything that burns, never on a wood deck or dry grass, and set it on dirt, stone, gravel or sand.
Fire size: the Brookhaven manual allows 7 lb. of wood, charcoal or fire logs at a time; the Whitlock’s allows 5 lb. Keep the spark screen on.
Wood pit carePropane table
Flame at the turn of a knob, no ash, and a table top for drinks. The Crossridge holds its 20 lb. cylinder in a support inside the base.
Use: outdoors only, in a ventilated space, with the lava rock kept off the burner’s ignition area.
How to light itHow to light a Hampton Bay propane fire pit
The Crossridge manual’s steps. The igniter runs on one AAA battery.
Open
Open the tank
Check the knob is off, then slowly open the cylinder valve.
Press
Igniter and knob
Hold the igniter button, turn the knob to high, and let go of the button once it lights.
30 sec
Keep holding
Hold the knob in for 30 seconds, then release. If it goes out, start again.
Adjust
Set the flame
Turn the knob to the flame you want. Off is clockwise.
No flame within 10 seconds? Shut the valve and wait 5 minutes. If the igniter fails, the manual allows a long match or butane lighter at the ignition area.
Hampton Bay fire pit won’t light or stay lit
From the troubleshooting table in the propane fire pit manual.
No spark
The AAA battery is dead or in backwards, or the electrode wire is loose. Replace the battery and seat the wire firmly.
A match lights it? Then it’s the igniter.
Lighting stepsGoes out when you let go
The knob wasn’t held 30 seconds, wind blew it out, or debris or lava rock covers the ignition area. A dirty or faulty thermocouple does it too.
Clear the burner area and hold longer.
Parts and helpLow flame on high
The tank is low, the hose is pinched, or the orifice or venturi is clogged. Relight slowly, check the tank, then clean.
The manual’s first fix: relight slowly.
Get the manualYellow flame, gas smell
Spider webs or debris in the burner venturi. Turn it off and clean the venturi before you use it again.
Check for insects at least once a year.
Care and storageHampton Bay fire pit covers and care
Small habits that keep the bowl and burner going for seasons.
Wood pit care
The Brookhaven manual says to line the bowl with 1 to 1.5 in. of sand before the first fire. Clean out the ash once it’s cold.
Let the pit cool before you move it.
Wood pit rulesCovers
The Brookhaven and Aldridge come with a cover. Put any cover on only after the pit and screen are fully cool.
Never cover a pit that’s in use.

Where can I buy a Hampton Bay fire pit?
At Home Depot stores and homedepot.com, where each pit’s page shows current stock and verified buyer reviews.
Is there a Hampton Bay 30 inch fire pit?
Yes. The Crossridge and Aldridge propane tables are both 30 in. wide, and the round Sadler wood pit is about 29 in.
Is the Hampton Bay Sadler fire pit any good?
It’s a 29 in. steel bowl with a wood grate, drainage holes, mesh cover and poker, and a one-year warranty. Read its verified reviews on Home Depot before you buy.
Does a Hampton Bay fire pit come with a cover?
Some do. The Brookhaven and Aldridge list a cover in the box. Only put a cover on once the pit is completely cool.
How do I light the Hampton Bay propane fire pit?
Open the tank slowly, hold the igniter, turn the knob to high, then keep holding the knob for 30 seconds after it lights. See the lighting steps.
Why does my propane fire pit go out?
Usually the knob wasn’t held long enough, wind, or lava rock and debris over the ignition area. A dirty thermocouple is the next suspect.
Can I use a wood fire pit on a deck?
Not a wood deck. The manuals rule out wood decks, dry grass and leaves, and ask for 8 ft. from walls or anything that burns.
